Swiss MoGo Bluetooth Mouse

MoGo Mouse motion is "jumpy" (version 1.1) Effect: As the user moves the mouse, it doesn't move smoothly on the screen.

Cause: The reason the mouse might fail to move smoothly are :

  1. Poor connectivity to the bluetooth transponder;
  2. The Window's system being too heavily used;
  3. Too smooth and/or transparent a mouse surface;
  4. Too low a setting for the mouse speed; or
  5. A Bluetooth transpoder (dongle or integrated into the system) that is version 1.0 or 1.2.
The first thing you might want to do is insure that the surface your mouse uses is suitable for an optical mouse. A simple test would be to use a sheet of writing or printer paper for the mouse surface. If that fixed the problem, your original mouse surface is not appropriate and you should try something else.

If changing your mouse surface didn't work, next check the signal strength between the Bluetooth transpoder and the MoGo Mouse. To check you should do the following:

  1. Double click the Bluetooth Manager icon in the run-tray (right side of the task bar at the bottom of the screen).
  2. Double click the "Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood" icon. If you have the MoGo Mouse paired with the system you should see the MoGo Mouse BT icon.
  3. Double click the MoGo Mouse BT icon. Toward the bottom of the dialog box you should see a section entitled: "Signal Strength". Move the mouse as you would normally and watch the graph. If it gets too low (or is not present) it means there is something interfering with the communications between the two devices.
  4. If you do have too low a signal strength make sure your MoGo Mouse is charged and paired. Also make sure your computer isn't too close to other 2.4Ghz signal sources like some wireless telephones, a wireless access point or even a microwave oven.
If you found the signal strength as sufficient, see if your system is really busy. This can be easily done by running the Microsoft Task Manager. You can run it by entering the keystrokes: CTRL ALT DEL. This will pop up a dialog asking you what you want to do. You should push the "Task Manager" button. Once the Task Manager dialog is visible make sure the Performance tab is selected. You ought to see a graph of CPU Usage and CPU Usage History. If you find cpu usage going up and staying up (near the middle to top of the graphs) it means that your system is busy doing work. At these times it is possible for the MoGo Mouse (and any mouse really) to respond sluggishly. The only solution would be to terminate some running applications or get a fast system.

Another reason for a jumpy mouse might be incorrect settings for the mouse
movement. The following steps will help you determine if this is the reason:

  3. Right click over the MoGo Mouse BT icon and select Properties.
  4. Once you see the MoGo Mouse BT Properties, push the Properties button. This will bring up the Mouse Properties dialog.
  5. You should select the Motion tab to check the speed and acceleration you have set for the mouse. In the speed section of the dialog, the slider should be at least half-way. In the acceleration section, you should see the radio button Low selected.
Finally, the MoGo Mouse BT is a version 2.0 bluetooth device. While it will talk to older Bluetooth systems (version 1.0 or 1.2), performance will be somewhat degraded. You should consider upgrading your system or getting a newer dongle. You can determine what version your system is running by performing the following steps:

  1. Right click the Bloetooth Manager icon and select Advanced Configuration.
  2. When the Bluetooth Configuration dialog pops up, select the Hardware tab.
    You will see a listing of the Bluetooth transponder you are using. For best performance it should say: HCI Version 2.0 and LMP Version 2.0. This information is in the Devices Properties section of the tab.
